what's a smallholder farmer?
a smallholder farmer is typically a family-owned farm that is no bigger than 5 hectares.
there are many factors that have traditionally made it difficult for these farmers to earn decent livelihoods. for many years coffee farms have been subdivided, with the average farm size now significantly decreased. as farms have shrunk, smallholder coffee farmers have earned less. fluctuating global prices and the inability to reinvest into farm improvements have led to ongoing challenges.
however we aim to change these practices. our pricing policy ensures that we are investing in the long-term success of our partners.
